Axes are recurring items in the Rusty Lake series, appearing in multiple games. There are several varieties of axe that appear, from small hatchets to a large battleaxe.
Cube Escape: Seasons[]
In Winter, an axe can be found in the bottom drawer of the dresser. It is used to cut down the boards covering the window, then to break open the window itself, allowing a freed Harvey to return to the Room.
Rusty Lake Hotel[]
In Mr. Boar's room, there is a large ornamental axe next to his chair. When he is using the bathroom, the player can unfasten the bolts holding it in place, and tie it to a rope, which is then lifted up above the seat. When Mr. Boar returns, the player cuts the rope with a knife, causing the axe to fall and kill Mr. Boar.
Rusty Lake: Roots[]
In 1860, James Vanderboom moves into his new house. There is a key hidden behind a painting, which is used to unlock a drawer containing the axe. It is then used to chop a log for it to be burned. In 1924, Rose is with the Dog by the well. Someone sends up a paper airplane asking for help, including food. In order to grill the fish that was caught, an axe is used to chop down a branch from the tree, providing wood.
Rusty Lake Paradise[]
During the Third Plague, the axe is used to cut down a tree revealing a hidden pathway where David Eilander is waiting and remarks that his blood sugar is low. The player provides him with sugary food until he is covered by flies, and is transformed into a giant maggot.
During the Eighth Plague, the front gates to the Island are boarded up. David, Gerard and Nicholas stand in the Lake, and play a musical tune that serves as a code to a locked chest on the ground by the gate. Inside the chest is an axe, that the player uses to break through the boarded gate.
