Binoculars, or a Telescope, are recurring items in the Rusty Lake games.

Seasons Cube Escape: Seasons[]

A pair of binoculars appear in Summer, behind the pot on top of the dresser. They are used to examine the moon through the window. On the moon, the player can see Laura looking back at them, as well as the code to the safe written on a window. She is then murdered by a Corrupted Soul.

The Mill Cube Escape: The Mill[]

Binoculars can be found on the top floor of the Mill, inside a cabinet next to a pair of knitting needles. They are used twice in the game, first to closely examine the Chapel, as the player cannot see the date carved onto the wall, which is the code for the door to the Mill's pumphouse. The second time they are used is to view the source of a beam of light, which is revealed to be a motionless Dale Vandermeer, before Mr. Owl appears to transport him to the Lake.

Rusty Lake Roots Rusty Lake: Roots[]

Binoculars first appear in the the Staircase chapter in 1870, after the secret code door on the bookcase is completed to open the secret compartment. It is used to view out of the window towards the Rusty Lake Hotel, where the player can see silhouettes in the window, which can then be used to solve another puzzle to open the hidden staircase.

It appears again in the Masks chapter, inside a locked cabinet. Once obtained, it is used to look around Rusty Lake and its features through an open window. If the weather is rainy or snowy, the player can see a Corrupted Soul, and symbols needed to open another cabinet in the room to obtain the Moon Mask. If the sky outside is dark, the binoculars can be used to once again view the moon, where the Corrupted Soul can be seen looking back through another window.

Rusty Lake Paradise Rusty Lake Paradise[]

The binoculars appear during the Ninth Plague, locked away in the second floor of the tower. Viewing the night sky, the player must rearrange constellations to get the code to a key locked in the zodiac clock, which unlocks the door to the third floor.

Trivia Trivia[]

  • Despite being called 'binoculars' every appearance in a game, they are consistently depicted as a monocular telescope. A larger, mounted telescope also appears in Rusty Lake: Roots.
