The Heart is an item that has appeared in three games in the Rusty Lake series. It appears to be the heart of a human being, though is only rarely found inside a person.
Cube Escape: Case 23[]
In the Chapel, there is a column of slots on the wall. One of the upper slots holds a fetus in a jar, and the player must pour ink into the jar. The ink coats the entire jar, then disappears to reveal that the fetus has changed into a heart. Now, the heart can be placed into the heart-shaped slot in the lower column, which holds a pair of scissors inside.
Cube Escape: Theatre[]
During the first play, "The Lady of the Lake", the starring actress will want you to balance the substance of her past lives. In the bathroom, there is a heart inside vanity cabinet. When balanced correctly on the scale along with the other items, the woman will shine a beam of light from her mouth and give the player a flower, ending the play.
Rusty Lake: Roots[]
In 1865, James has moved into the house of his deceased uncle William. When the clock in the house is set to the correct time, it will open, and William's corpse is found stuffed inside. When interacted with, it falls to the ground. The player can travel into the body through the nipple, and take his heart. This is placed into a jar, becoming the first sacrifice. Finally in 1935, in the underground laboratory, there is a locked cabinet which can only be opened when the other sacrifices are balanced equally on the scales. The cabinet opens to reveal the heart, and when it is placed on the last scale, the tree's roots descend and absorb the sacrifices.
Rusty Lake Paradise[]
During the Sixth Plague, Gerard has fallen ill and requires aid. The player pops his boils to clear his chest, then uses a knife to remove his heart. Giving him medicine and aligning his teeth reveals the time to set on a grandfather clock. This opens the dial on the clock. The clockwork inside is taken out, and given to Gerard to revive him. Placing the heart in the clock opens the case below, in which there is a box holding a black cube.
Cube Escape: Paradox[]
There is a covered cage, where a Hand appears from inside. When it is given a knife, it goes behind the cloth and reappears with a heart. The heart is placed inside a jar with other organs, revealing a plaque on the brain jar that states Dale's brain has become useless and advises the player call A. Vanderboom for more information.
Samsara Room[]
In the Fish Room, there is a nail sticking out of the side of the clock. Nails and pieces of wood are removed from the clock until a hand emerges. Giving the hand a knife, it goes back into the clock and reappears holding the heart. It can then be used on window portal, leading back to the Normal Room and turning William back into a Corrupted Soul.
Once William reaches the Bird Room, he sees a stork in a bird's nest. By feeding the stork the heart along with the gecko, the worm, and the fish, it will vomit out a baby, which is in fact his own reincarnation.
