Mr. Vandermeer is Dale's father, and appears when Dale enters a cube taking him back to a childhood memory in 1939, in his family home.
Cube Escape: Birthday[]
He is seen sitting by Dale's birthday cake and present. He asks his son to slice him a piece of cake, which to his surprise has a needle inside. After this, he will only ask that Dale to check up on his grandfather. When Mr. and Mrs. Vandermeer begin to sing "Happy Birthday", they are suddenly stopped by the doorbell ringing. Mr. Rabbit breaks into the house, and shoots him dead.
With time reversed back by the blue cube, Mr. Vandermeer is brought back to life, but with no recollection of the past events. When Mr. Rabbit returns to break the door down, he is shot by Dale's grandfather. Afterwards, he and his wife cower in the corner, and he can only say, "How did you know?"
Cube Escape: Paradox[]
When Dale enters his past mind, he is taken back to his childhood birthday. His father asks him to prepare the decorations, and then call the magician, Mr. Eilander. After he arrives, he hides around the room, and Mr. Vandermeer gives hints as to where he is hiding. Eventually, he asks Dale to open his present, where Mr. Eilander pops out and uses his hands as guns to shoot him and his wife dead.
Trivia[]
- He is voiced by Bob Rafferty.
- If he is given the pistol, he will say, "I don't know how to use this thing."
- He has a postcard addressed to Dale from the Rusty Lake Hotel in his jacket pocket, which the player can read after Mr. Vandermeer is dead. It congratulates Dale on his birthday, and claims to be written by Dale's 'good friend', Harvey.
