The Daily Herald is a newspaper that sometimes appears in the Rusty Lake series. The contents of articles aren't readable, but the headlines reference various meaningful events in the games.
Cube Escape: Case 23[]
In the first chapter of the game, there is a newspaper in Laura's living room. There is a contest with a crossword puzzle on it. The winner, Laura Vanderboom, received a free trip to Rusty Lake. The clues to solving the puzzle can be found around the room and the solution is "FATE".
Rusty Lake: Roots[]
In 1896, there is a newspaper on the parlor table. There is an article in it about Emma's death by hanging. Then, in 1914, when Leonard is preparing to go to participate in WWI, there are several papers on the ground. One of them is a newspaper with an article on his parents' deaths.
Cube Escape: Paradox[]
In order to complete the case file on the Woman, Dale must find evidence hidden around the room. A newspaper article is found in a folder labelled "evidence", detailing Laura's death and whether her death was a murder or suicide. After Dale reawakens in the same room, he must complete a psychological evaluation on himself. Going into his past mind and witnessing the murder of his parents, he opens his present to find a newspaper article. The article details Dale's birthday party massacre where he was the sole survivor.
The White Door[]
On the fourth day, the player can find Bob's patient file in his dresser. Along with his own medical files, there is an article from the Daily Herald about Laura's death. The paper, written on October 12 of 1971, details that Laura was found dead after her mysterious disappearance. Along with a photo of her corpse there is a photo of her house, also seen in Cube Escape: Paradox.

- The text articles in the newspaper are excerpts from the 1956 short story "Confession of a Coward" by Charles Bukowski.
- The article headlines seem to consist of one event directly related to the game and one or two others that reference events happening around the same time.
- The article headline "PurpleLogic wins" refers to a real-life contest, in which participants submitted puzzle ideas. The winner, PurpleLogic, had their idea of a matryoshka doll puzzle appear in Cube Escape: Case 23.
